(2024 or 2025 Start)
Loewen Kruse CPAs is looking for an associate accountant to join our team. Recent accounting graduates and experienced accountants currently enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program can be considered for this role. As a member of the team, you will rapidly gain accounting, assurance, and tax experience in both of our sectors of focus – owner-managed businesses and non-profit organizations. We are a growing mid-sized firm with offices in Burnaby (near Metrotown) and Langley (in Walnut Grove).
Please note that this position can be based in either office. The start date is flexible for the right candidate, including the fall of 2024 for recent graduates or the fall of 2025 for current students. January start dates are considered on a case-by-case basis. For the fall of 2024, preference is given to candidates working in our Burnaby location.
In this role, your responsibilities can include:
- Working directly with clients to prepare corporate financial statements and tax returns from start to finish.
- Participating in teams to complete review and audit assurance engagements, with many opportunities to take on increasing responsibility.
- Preparing personal tax returns and liaising with CRA on behalf of clients.
- Preparing other compliance returns as needed, including trust (T3), payroll (T4), and investment income (T5) summary returns as part of the overall tax planning work with clients.
- Providing ongoing support to clients on an as-needed basis.
We are always on the lookout for people who consider themselves:
- Contributors to social good – finding meaning by helping NPOs and small businesses thrive.
- People and service-oriented – eager to be trusted advisors on important financial decisions.
- Continuous learners – driven to be lifelong learners, even beyond the CPA designation.
- A self-starter – trusted to initiate and complete client engagements with great professionalism.
- Team-oriented with low ego – willing to do what it takes to help get the job done.
Why should you want to work at Loewen Kruse?
- To obtain your CPA designation. We provide well-rounded experience in your first several years that builds a stellar foundation for your career. We also cover the cost of module fees, annual CPA dues, and additional CFE preparation support.
- To gain extensive financial knowledge of the charity and owner-managed business sectors – these are high-impact organizations in our community. You will be exposed to a broad range of technical learning opportunities across both for-profit and non-profit contexts.
- To work within a team culture that balances a supportive network and flexibility.
- To be supported by and learn from a group of experts and mentors.
- To balance work with the opportunity to fulfill other life activities – family time, travel, community roles, and other passions. We work limited overtime during our busy season and enjoy Fridays off in July and August.
- In addition to the flexible schedules, we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Ongoing professional development support through CPA PEP and beyond the CPA designation.
Technical requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree and eligibility or near-eligibility for the CPA Professional Education Program. Eligibility to enroll in the Core 1 module by September 2024 is preferred, but not required.
- Strong grasp of the English language, in oral and written forms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and prior customer-facing work experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong comprehension of technology and ability to learn new programs. Experience in accounting or bookkeeping contexts, or experience with bookkeeping software such as Quickbooks or Sage, are excellent but not required.
